Based on the true story of WWII Russian sharpshooter, Vassili Zaitsev. The Russian Army has made Vassili a national hero; in response the Nazi's send their best marksman to the Battle of Stalingrad to kill him.
The pivotal battle being fought at Stalingrad becomes secondary when the two snipers face off in what has become a personal war. Largely sticking to the facts, Enemy at the Gates is a fine war drama with some interesting characters. Vassili, (Law) in particular is a fine character with an introverted personality that becomes conflicted with his duty to country.
One thing really bothered me about this film though. Most of the Russian characters speak with a British accent (because the actors cast are British). It probably won't bother most, but I was uncomfortable with it.
