A man who is unable to make new memories tries to track down the man who murdered his wife. But without a short term memory, he doesn't know who to trust and must resort to stacks of Polaroids, notes and even tatoos to help him sort out the truth.

The story is told backwards in many segments. This focuses the interest in the film from WHAT happened to WHY did it happen. And that is the heart of the film, but there's so much more going on with the main character Leonard, played wonderfully by Pearce, that interest in him grows as the plot moves backward.

Truly a wonderful character study, and even at the conclusion of the movie, 10 viewers may have 10 differing opinions about good guys, bad guys and motives.
