A career safe cracker decides to pull one last job for the mob before retirement.

A gritty, somewhat stylish crime drama with a certain measure of appeal. There is a decent script with decent dialogue and some rather interesting and marginally powerful scenes. If you get the idea that, while a good picture, Thief's appeal reaches a limit Ð you are right. This is a very watchable and worthwhile film, but no fan of crime drama is going to say it is their favorite. It would serve well as a nice addition to an already lush movie collection.
