Based on the underground comic of the same name by Harvey Pekar. American Splendor surrounds the everyday adventures of its hapless creator. The film also chronicles many of the thoughts and expressions of Harvey Pekar.
A small scale half-biopic from HBO Films that doesn't delve too deeply into the mind of Mr. Pekar But it provides enough of his background and circumstance to make the film (and the associated comic strip) thoroughly enjoyable. With its offbeat humor and characters too strange to be fictional, American Splendor entertains on various levels. There is a good character study here but the humor is light enough to entertain a broader audience.
