Bud Baxter (Lemmon) is moving up the corporate ladder in a most unusual way. He is lending out his apartment to his superiors as a place for them to carry out their extra marital affairs. This gets in the way of his attempts to charm his building's attractive elevator operator (MacLaine).
Many critics agree, Jack Lemmon's performance in The Apartment is one of the greatest big screen acting achievements ever. He, in tandem with a wonderful cast, delivers a fantastic picture. Witty and romantic, The Apartment is a film with a soul. Fast moving up the ranks as one of Only Good Movies favorite 'old' films.
The last movie shot fully in black and white to win Best Picture.
Directed by Billy Wilder.
