An
insurance investigator gets involved
in several jewel heists after an
encounter with a hypnotist.
Less
is "stated" in this film when compared
to other films Woody has done. This
is more of a what-you-see-is-what-you-get
type film. This may be (and has been)
of some disappointment to Woody fans.
While it does have its faults, such
as Woody and Hunt's confrontational
relationship being a little over
done and a largely wasted character
role for Charlize Theron, Jade
Scorpion does have the occasional smart dialogue
and some fiery one-liners.
With
a little more attention to some of
the office characters Allen works
with, this could've been a remarkable
ensemble piece. As it is, Curse
of the Jade Scorpion doesn't push, but
it pleases on other levels.
Written
and Directed by Woody Allen.
