Based on the John Irving novel about a boy who sets out to find himself before taking over the responsibilities of the orphanage he was raised in.

Not as heavy-handed as you may expect, despite subject matter of performing illegal abortions. Wonderful cast of likable characters and great performances to go along. Caine and Erykah Badu, making her screen debut, are especially noteworthy. Not the best picture of the year, but definitely worth looking at.

Nominated for 7 Academy Awards including Best Picture, winning Best Supporting Actor for Michaael Caine.
