Street youths in Brazil make decisions in their formative years that could save them or recycle them into a life of crime and violence. Based on a true story.
There is nothing typical about City of God. You'll find much of it to fresh and original. The telling of the histories of a cast of interesting characters is fleshed out nicely through a series of flashbacks. The story is a shocking, humorous and shameful. Rapid-fire editing and creative camera use help to bring this human drama spun into a crime tail to the top of the heap.
City of God is one of the better films of the past ten years.
Directed by Fernando Meirelles & Katia Lund.
Nominated for Four Academy Awards.
