A smalltime Florida defense attorney is lured to New York City where his continued success may have a supernatural source.

Fantastic performances and sinister portrayals lift this film. Pacino is great, as always, Reeves even comes through here; and Charlize Thereon gives one of the best performances of the year as Reeve's endangered young wife.

Many complain the talky ending is a bit of a letdown, but the rest of the film is a tight, lavish production that should intrigue fans of the supernatural and of mainstream drama, as well.
