In order to fund his lover's sex change operation, an inexperienced bisexual crook holds up a bank with his dull-witted buddy on a blistering hot day.
Although certainly a great vehicle for Pacino to showcase his acting talents, there isn’t much that is outstanding in this picture but there is enough of everything to make Dog Day Afternoon one of the standout crime dramas of the mid-seventies.
Some interesting dialogue and a complex lead character drive the film and really immerse the viewer into the story. We know that Pacino is gonna screw up; the interest comes in guessing the how and when.
Won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
Directed by Sidney Lumet.
