A dedicated dad (Travolta) is worried that his son's new stepfather (Vaughn) isn't the wonderful person he appears to be.
A fairly predicable but still entertaining suspense drama. Travolta pleases in a good-guy father role, and Vaughn really does a nice job as the volatile villain. The most exciting scenes are those with Vaughn and his stepson. Here Vaughn really shows good range, oscillating between rage and still trying to effectively communicate with the child.
A pretty good murder story pops up. If good dad can prove that bad dad is really bad, the cops will finally believe him. This is okay, but we already know that bad dad is bad. It would've been more interesting if the audience did not know this for certain, then the conclusion could have really had a big payoff.
But not a bad (or brilliant) movie as a whole. A great film candidate for a screenwriting student to rewrite.
