As her friends are preparing for their futures, a disillusioned and jaded girl takes up with a dorky record collector.
A somewhat poignant and rather entertaining social commentary based on the popular graphic novel of the same name. I am having trouble placing exactly where this film wanted to go. It is a deadpan drama with some interesting characters and still has time to be laugh-out-loud funny at certain points. The idea that much of today's youth is jaded and far more intelligent than most recognize gets across. But there are also feelings of loneliness, skepticism and foolishness running through these girls. I'm not ready to accept that Ghost World was meant to be just another lost souls/chick flick, however. Somehow there seemed to be more at the heart of this film.
Directed by Terry Zwigoff.
