While home from college on summer break, a young man falls for an older local girl who has two children and an angry separated husband. After tragedy strikes, a simple family from a Maine fishing town must deal with their grief.
The critics seemed to go wild over In the Bedroom. The highest praise should be given to all of the film's actors; compelling and interesting character portrayals drive this film. As does a fine plot line. The manner in which human emotions are dealt with in this film props it into a realm where it has few peers. Although I was left a bit underwhelmed by it's dogged nature, it is still among the best pictures of the year.
The film drags for about five minutes, nothing a little tighter editing couldn't fix, but overall a wonderful first directing effort from Todd Field, I'll look forward to his next project.
