A
strange man, calling himself
Prot (Spacey), claims
to be from another planet.
His psychiatrist (Bridges)
thinks he is regressing
a past trauma; but Prot
may have just enough evidence
to prove the doctor wrong.
An interesting psychological
drama that keeps you guessing
till the very end. And
this may be my biggest
complaint. I wanted a
firm yes or no about Prot's
origins, instead we're
left with an interesting
but ultimately disappointing
conclusion. Some may find
that this enhances the
mystery of the movie,
but for me, after watching
two hours of mystery,
I wanted something I could
hang my hat on. This isn't
to say that the ending
is too blurry for a viewer
to draw their own conclusions,
however.
There are several interesting
aspects to this story.
One of which is Prot's
relationship with his
fellow patients in the
Psych Ward. I wanted more
here, too. There was not
enough mystery surrounding
these relationships. We
do get plenty of interaction
between doctor and patient,
some of which includes
entertaining banter and
humorous human behavior
references.
Despite my inferences
above, I found K-PAX
very enjoyable. But I
can't help but think that
with a few edits to the
script, it could've been
much better.
Directed by Iain Softley.
