A
widowed English woman
takes a job as the teacher
of the children belonging
to the bold King of Siam.
A Yul Brynner
classic. His role as the
King is one of the most
famous in screen (and
stage) history. As a movie,
The King and I is a bit
well...off. Most of the
songs aren't that great,
and for a film with wonderfully
lavish sets, most of the
numbers are rather simplistic.
But Brynner, Kerr and
Moreno are all wonderful
and the film is a standout
for even just that. Of
special note, is a performance
within a performance of
a stage work the palace
women perform for some
guests, it's fantastic.
