In
the 1970's two boys witness
the abduction of a third
friend; which led to a
four-day ordeal and his
ultimate escape. Twenty-five
years later they become
reunited when the 19 year-old
daughter of one of the
men is brutally murdered.
An actor's film for certain;
rich and starkly believable
performances from every
one of the principal characters.
Sean Penn's portrayal
of a troubled and suffering
father is surely Oscar-worthy
and Tim Robbins gives
a disturbing, yet sympathetic
lilt to his best role
since The Shawshank Redemption.
Marcia Gay Harden, too
gives a wonderful performance
and may also garner Oscar
consideration.
Eastwood's direction
is no small part of the
acting achievements of
this cast. There is a
pace and breadth to this
work that is worthy of
respect. His gets the
most out of his actors
and the script without
being over-the-top or
"too Hollywood".
I'll describe Mystic
River as an artistic film
that is not artsy. A really
pleasing piece of filmmaking
that may very well, walk
home with several Oscars.
Directed by Clint Eastwood.
