Based on the story of Polish pianist Wladyslaw Szpilman, who lived through the Nazi occupation of Warsaw and survived by hiding in the city's demolished ghettos.
Brody won a Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Spzilman. An interesting heavy drama that despite its depressing scenery and circumstance, proves to be a very entertaining film. The point of view is always with the central character and we really get to see how he is changed by these events.
Polanski's direction is a highlight too. He has treated this film with a different style than many of his past thrillers. This action better serves the drama in The Pianist.
A top film of 2002 and a great achievement for both Brody and Polanski.
Directed by Roman Polanski.
