Semi-true account of director F.W. Murnau's filming of the 1922 German vampire film, Nosferatu. It appears that actor Max Scherck has immersed himself into the role a bit too far.
DaFoe is expertly cast as the vampire/actor here and Malkovich is equally convincing as the determined director. The script is eerie and light enough to keep the movie interesting and even fun. There's minimal character development, but that seems to be by design as to keep the viewer guessing motives. Movie buffs, vampire devotees and filmgoers searching for tight, refreshing fare should enjoy Shadow of the Vampire.
Directed by E. Elias Merhige.
Willem Dafoe nominated for Best Supporting Actor. |
