A mild mannered American mathematician and his young wife relocate to the quite English countryside. Soon, local hooligans begin tormenting them and a peaceful man is forced to protect his wife and his home.
A nice character study, some insightful writing and an ultra-cute Susan George are the highlights here. Once considered very controversial, Straw Dogs seems to be right in the middle of the imaginary timeline of film studies on violence. There's some aspects of past movies reworked here and just as many aspects of Straw Dogs are used in future films.
On it's own, Straw Dogs is a gripping, tension mounting, violent drama with some fine performances and more than a couple interesting characters. Definitely worth a look.
Directed by Sam Peckinpah.
