The life of Joan of Arc is examined in an introspective light.
Full of visual splendor, The Messenger is focused so much on Joan's personal plight with her gods and demons that much of the rest of the story is lost. This introspection is interesting, although over cooked.
Otherwise there's a loosely assembled war between England and France and the much more interesting story of a young king, played by Malkovich. The film should satisfy fans of historic, epic dramas and fans of deep character studies.
Directed by Luc Besson.
