A recent divorcee gives up life in the big city to rebuild a home and her life in the wine country of Italy.
Diane Lane has just the right touch in this film. At first it seems like an easy role for an actress to play but there are subtleties and emotion here that work on many levels. Although certainly a talented actress in her own right, someone like Jodi Foster could never pull this off.
The script is a little curious. There are elements that are totally predictable and contrived but some other elements that surprise you and catch you off guard…kind of like life I suppose. The picturesque scenery was enough to make me jealous and ready to move to Italy. The many characters with which she begins new relationships prove to be nothing less than charming.
I was pleased with the scenery, characterizations and feel-good tempo here. By no means is Under the Tuscan Sun a perfect film, but there is very little wrong with it.
Directed by Audrey Wells.
